All Lama-Min formulas are based upon llama and alpaca research conducted at universities, animal nutritionists and results from alpaca and llama breeders dating back to 1989.
Use the Lama-Min 102 during the summer months and switch to Lama-Min 104 during the winter. The 104 has higher levels of vitamin D to help offset the lack of sunlight associated with winter. Additionally, the calcium and phosphorus are balanced for diets that may include higher levels of grain or alfalfa. See below for more details on each vitamin and mineral. Your animals should eat on average 0.80 ounce per day. Consumption may increase during changes in the weather, either hot or cold, and health changes such as pregnancy and stress.
The Lama-Min 104 was formulated specifically for alpacas year round. Typically, alpacas are bred for their fiber. Fiber is a protein; therefore, the alpaca’s diet will have higher levels of protein (grains and alfalfa). The vitamin Bs and biotin found only in the 104 are to improve fiber growth (biotin) and quality (vitamin Bs, and higher levels of zinc). See below for more detail on each vitamin and mineral. Your animals should eat on average 0.30 ounce per day. Consumption may increase during changes in the weather, either hot or cold, and health changes such as pregnancy and stress.
We always recommend free-choice feeding of our vitamins and minerals. This means putting the minerals out in a bucket or other suitable container. Many of our customers use the green buckets that hang on a fence but try to place it out of the rain, like a loafing shed. Most importantly, remove ALL other sources of salt. The salt in our minerals is both the attractor and the limiter of consumption. Plus, do not use any other minerals or supplements that may add to the overall total of the vitamins and minerals being consumed without first consulting your veterinarian.
